ICPI awards Nitterhouse Masonry project

The Boulevard Mall project located in Baton Rouge, La., landed Nitterhouse Masonry Products LLC top honors in the Commercial Concrete Pavers (over 50,000 sq. ft.) category of Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute’s Hardscape North America awards. The Chambersburg, Pa., producer shipped 85,000 sq. ft. of 24-in. and 12-in. squarer architectural pavers, and the 12-in. square truncated dome (ADA) pavers.

High Concrete schedules $20 million transit contract

High Concrete Group LLC is producing architectural cladding enclosures for the new Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, with scheduled panel erection beginning spring 2011. Planned for completion in 2013, the 325,000-square-foot transit project includes thermally efficient precast enclosures for five new metro station buildings, six entrance pavilions and two ventilation structures.

Consultant sees green building poised for global rebound

Tucson, Ariz.-based green building and sustainability specialist Jerry Yudelson says that the green building industry will rebound in 2011 in spite of the continuing economic difficulties in most developed countries, citing 10 major trends.

PCI engages students in multiunit housing design

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute is calling for 2011 Student Architectural Design Competition entries through May 31. The project will address total-precast concrete design solutions for multiunit housing, including concepts for duplex, apartment, senior and extended-care housing projects, as well as hotels, motels, dormitories, and military barracks. Students will be evaluated on ability to creatively design and technically integrate architectural and structural total-precast concrete systems. They can use a selected site-specific location at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, or develop their own existing site.
