Cat applies iron competencies to plant- and site-grade utility vehicles

A manufacturing and supply agreement with Textron Specialized Vehicle positions Caterpillar Inc. for a mid-2018 launch of its first-ever utility vehicles, starting with the Cat CUV82 and CUV102D models running three-cylinder gas and diesel engines, respectively. Each model features rugged steel cargo bed; 1,000-lb. total rear cargo and 2,000-lb. towing capacities; plus smooth acceleration, clear sightlines and engine braking capability.

The CUV82 runs on a 50-hp, 3-cylinder 0.8L gas-powered engine, with top speed of 45 mph. The CUV102D (top) runs on a 25-hp, 3-cylinder 1.0L diesel engine with top speed of 25 mph.

The CUV082 and CUV102D boast a four-wheel independent suspension system with a front sway bar to provide stability at full load. A long swing-arm suspension, custom-tuned springs and shocks deliver a balance between a smooth ride and hauling loads. Ample ground clearance ensures the vehicles navigate rough terrain with ease. An intuitive column shifter allows the driver to easily maneuver through all the gears. Both models feature a continuously variable transmission, tuned specifically for work applications. A choice of two- or four-wheel drive or four-wheel drive/lock modes permits the driver to match vehicle drive to ground conditions. Ample behind-the-seat storage and document holder provide space for personal items and gear. The passenger seat base can be removed and stowed behind the driver seat to create floor space for oversized items.

Electric power steering affords tight turning capabilities. The instrument gauge offers easy viewing of critical operating information such as ground and engine speed, engine temperature and operating hours, odometer, battery voltage, and fuel level. Multiple cab options with sealed surfaces on the ROPS structure provide a weather tight enclosure, while other offerings include snow plows, heater, front winch and power dump. The vehicles are prewired for quick do-it-yourself installation of 50-plus accessory options, and will be available throughout the United States and Canada, excepting California and Quebec.
