The 2020 allows drivers to view available hours, update duty status, and electronically submit service records. Visual alerts help them manage driving time and immediately access data helping improve CSA scores.

Truck and equipment telematics and transportation technology provider Zonar Systems bills the 2020 tablet as the key to compliance with a final rule mandating use of electronic logging devices (ELD) to complete paper records of duty status. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration released the rule in late 2015, setting the stage for a 2017 compliance deadline.

“When the ELD [rule] was first proposed, we wanted to leverage our experience and existing solutions to be at the forefront of a mandate that will help save lives and boost efficiency,” says Zonar Vice President of Compliance Fred Fakkama. “By providing leveraging innovative technology in our ELD, the 2020 is primed to help fleet managers work towards compliance by the time the rules go into affect.

“Getting a fleet and its drivers to switch from paper logs to a technology they may not be familiar with has an inherent learning curve. Our objective is to help fleets make this as a seamless process as much as possible.”

The mandate aims to reduce the paperwork burden associated with hours or service recordkeeping for interstate truck drivers, he adds, while improving logbook data quality. Compliant operators will ultimately reduce hours of service violations by making it more difficult for drivers to misrepresent time on logbooks and avoid FMCSA or law enforcement personnel detection.

Purpose-built for any sized fleet and operating inside and out of the vehicle, the Zonar 2020 addresses the ELD with the driver-friendly ZLogs. Beyond that solution for ELD rule compliance, the tablet is equipped to provide additional fleet benefits through the Electronic Verified Inspection Report, which allows drivers to make another transition from paper-based to digital processes. The EVIR instantly provides inspection results for improved compliance and maintenance efficiency. Also standard on the 2020 are advanced commercial navigation and two-way, form-based communication capabilities. — Zonar Systems, Seattle, www.zonarsystems.com
