In 2007, a total of 25.9 million yards of concrete was used in subdivision streets, gutters, curbing, municipal sidewalks and collection boxes, according to a recent Portland Cement Association-commissioned study. On average, 26.4 yards of concrete were used for single-family homes in residential developments, while 4.1 yards were used per multi-family unit. Approximately 18 percent of homes built in 2007 were on concrete streets. PCA commissioned the study with the National Association of Home Builders' Research Center to obtain estimates on the volume of concrete used in single-family and multi-family residential developments.
