Terex Advance shortens, lightens new urban fleet-geared front series

Terex Advance bills the Charger front discharge mixer as its first true city-class truck designed and built specifically for delivering concrete in urban areas. Premiering in a three-axle version at World of Concrete 2018, the lighter, shorter model offers the tight turning radius characteristics of traditional Terex Advance front discharge mixers, including the current FD and FDB series models, and is priced competitively with rear discharge trucks.

Nano-scale agent frees GCP’s shotcrete system of silica fume

Silica particles graded at nano-scale, where the unit of measure is 1 billionth meter, might be the smallest objects on admixture scientists’ radar, but are on the cusp of becoming one of the most important concrete developments since the mid-1990s advent of polycarboxylate superplasticizers.

Admixture extracts CSH binding value, tempers heat-prone free lime

Ohio-based adhesive, sealant, gel and coating specialist Silicone Solutions plans a 2018 World of Concrete launch for a nano-silica admixture that effectively converts Types I and II portland cement to a Type IV low heat binder. CoolCure skews hydration chemistry to calcium silicate hydrate or CSH, the principal binding agent in concrete, to the detriment of calcium hydroxide or Ca(OH)2, the heat of hydration source. The product is dosed in two parts per cubic yard: a silica-rich liquid at up to 1 gallon plus a dry catalyst at up to 1 lb. per 100 lbs. of cement.
