Ontario Producers Expedite Pavement Cost, Life Cycle Comparison

Ready Mixed Concrete AssociationReady Mixed Concrete Association of Ontario’s Pavement Design Assistance Program (PDAP) provides public and private sector project engineers and consultants comprehensive proposals for an equivalent, comparable concrete pavement alternative for street and road or parking lot contracts carrying asphalt specifications.

PDAP is designed as a free, simple, yet detailed tool that takes the time and guess work out of the hands of pavement construction planners when it comes to recommending a concrete slab versus asphalt. “The proposal doesn’t stop at just an equivalent concrete pavement cross section,” says RMCAO Senior Pavement Engineer Mick Prieur. When end users turn to the program for either a road or parking lot design, he adds, “They will also get in their proposal package a detailed assessment comparison that will include a Life Cycle Cost Analysis of both pavements, a Life Cycle Analysis for environmental impacts, as well as guideline specifications and additional reference materials.”

A collective effort of the ready mixed concrete industry in Ontario, the program communicates the ease of concrete use in a pavement application and provides real project numbers that show the ever-increasing cost parity between concrete and asphalt. It debuted last month at Concrete Canada, running in conjunction with Construct Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. — www.PDAP.ca
