Command Alkon managers secure patent on mixing process, strength predictability

Command Alkon product design and programming veterans Bob Phare and Charlene Hohl have been awarded U.S. Patent No. 9,533,429 – System and Process for Mixing Concrete Having Desired Strength Characteristics. It covers methods for a) rapidly determining the predicted strength of concrete prior to pouring; and, b) creating and maintaining a database in which mix designs and their performance characteristics can be logged and updated as hardened concrete's actual strength is measured. Functions based on the technology will be incorporated in future versions of the quality control platform, COMMANDqc.

Construction Supply Group adds Zia Concrete to Southwest platform

Construction Supply Group (CSG) has acquired Zia Concrete Supply and will integrate the Albuquerque-based distributor into its Southwestern business unit, Border Construction Specialties. The deal positions CSG with 74 branches, 1,150 employees, upwards of 25,000 customers, and 70,000-plus stock keeping units.

U.S. Concrete adds 11 Texas sites in Golden Spread RM deal

U.S. Concrete has significantly expanded its west Texas footprint, acquiring the assets of Amarillo-based Golden Spread Redi-Mix Inc. The deal includes 10 fixed plants; a five-plant portable division; an aggregates operation with deep reserves and close proximity to Amarillo; and, a dump and bulk tanker fleet serving the concrete sites.

Martin Marietta veteran named NRMCA Driver of the Year

Leonard "Glenn" Brown of Martin Marietta's Rocky Mountain Division is the 2018 Ready Mixed Driver of the Year. Based at the producer's Chambers Plant in Aurora, Colo., he was honored during the NRMCA annual convention in Houston, and will receive $5,000 from the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau.
