Ending a one-year drought of announced concrete and aggregate deals, Summit Materials has acquired Utah’s Westroc Inc. and certain Lafarge North America assets in Kansas.
Pleasant Grove, Utah-based Westroc brings seven ready mixed and two aggregate sites along the Wasatch Front. They join Summit Materials’ Salt Lake City platform business, Kilgore Contracting, which spans Utah, Idaho and Wyoming markets and includes ready mixed producers Altaview Concrete, Triple C and Wind River Materials. A concurrent deal with Lafarge NA has added three ready mixed, one asphalt and two aggregate operations serving southeast Kansas markets and Wichita, where Summit Materials has built a presence under another platform, Cornejo & Sons.
“These businesses … expand our footprint in Utah and Kansas,” says CEO Tom Hill, “and we look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality products and services to our many valued customers.”
The Utah and Kansas investments represent 100 million tons of aggregate reserves. Properties in the latter state are the latest Lafarge NA has shed in a Great Plains and Intermountain region retreat—led by major transactions with Eagle Materials (Missouri and Kansas operations) and Martin Marietta Materials (Colorado Front Range).
