W. Brent Nixon, Ph.D, P.E. has been named president and chief executive officer of CTLGroup succeeding Dr. Timothy Tonyan, who following an interim period at the helm, will now serve as senior vice president.
“Brent has the right mix of technical expertise, business acumen and leadership. His charismatic style and passion for success will bring positive energy to CTLGroup,” says Gregory Scott, chairman of CTLGroup and president and CEO of parent Portland Cement Association. Dr. Nixon will lead the global engineering, consulting and material sciences firm into the future with unmatched enthusiasm for pursuit of technical excellence, client satisfaction and corporate performance, Scott adds.
With 30 years’ experience in engineering and military service, Dr. Nixon brings executive management, operational and business development expertise with highly technical professionals and mission-focused teams in operational, professional service and academic organizations. In the past 11 years as corporate officer and vice president of Science and Engineering, he was instrumental in the evolution of Environmental Chemical Corp. from small remediation company into a global design-build, disaster response and remediation firm with 600 employees and annual revenue of $700 million.
During his U.S. Air Force career, Dr. Nixon served in several senior engineering management and academic roles. As a division manager of HQ Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment and program manager at HQ Air Combat Command, he led development, design, construction and closure projects for advanced-technology systems and readiness programs worldwide. He also served as the interim associate dean, department chair and professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology, Graduate School of Engineering and Management in Dayton, Ohio.
Among Dr. Nixon’s direct reports at CTLGroup, Dr. Tonyan assumes a new role focusing on business development, project management of multidisciplinary teams, promoting the firm’s expertise within the industry, and managing of major client accounts. He joined CTLGroup in 2009 as principal material scientist and was promoted in 2010 to Materials Consulting Group vice president and manager.
