Lytx honors Lafarge terminal driver with spotless, 3 million-mile record

Video telematics specialist Lytx named Lafarge North America’s North Dakota-based bulk tanker ace Jack Weig its 2018 Driver of the Year, Private Trucking—one of six categories honoring DriveCam technology users. The award was presented during the Lytx User Group Conference in San Diego. Weig has earned an internal safe driving award 37 times, once for every year he’s been with Lafarge. Throughout his career, he has not logged a single at-fault accident, despite driving more than 3 million miles, and believes in acting as a courteous and professional ambassador for his company’s brand, on and off the road. Managers cite the personal ownership Weig takes in his role at the company, customers’ overall satisfaction, and fleet equipment.

Argos USA channels carbon dioxide in cement kiln, ready mixed loop

Atlanta-based Argos USA has anchored a five-member consortium targeting a closed loop model of carbon dioxide capture and recycling in cement and concrete production. In an early-2018 demonstration, the company used CO2 from its Calera, Ala., cement plant in commercial concrete produced at its Glenwood, Ga., batch plant. That Atlanta-area ready mixed operation is among nearly 100 sites, primarily in the U.S., equipped with CarbonCure Technologies CO2 storage and injection devices. The CarbonCure process uses the greenhouse gas to promote cement hydration in high to zero slump concrete.

The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association presented Ken Mulzer Sr., Mulzer Crushed Stone Inc., with the 2018 E.B. Rayburn Jr. Award, recognizing leadership and innovation in industry marketing efforts. Now retired, Mulzer Sr., along with four siblings, helped grow the family aggregate business into a crushed stone, sand & gravel, concrete and asphalt production powerhouse. The business got its start in 1935 when his father, Arnold Mulzer, and uncles Edgar and Roland formed Mulzer Brothers, a small construction firm. In 1978, the company transformed into what is known today as Mulzer Crushed Stone.
