The American Concrete Institute introduced 2017-2018 officers and directors during The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Detroit, led by President Khaled Awad, chairman of Beirut-based material and geotechnical consultant ACTS; Vice President Randall Poston, senior principal with Pivot Engineers in Austin, Texas; and, Senior Vice President David Lange, University of Illinois professor of Civil Engineering.

Graycliff Partners, an independent New York investment firm focusing on middle market private equity transactions, has provided subordinated debt and equity financing to Delaware, Ohio-based Oberfields, a key regional player in concrete masonry and hardscape products, including standard gray and architectural block, segmental retaining walls, pavers, and precast components, plus related accessories. The investment supports the recapitalization of the company, led by President and CEO Bruce Loris, and buyout of another principal, Anderson Group LLC.

CSHub assembles global cement, concrete group leaders at MIT

Leaders of cement and concrete industry organizations representing 11 countries and regions from around the U.S. met with Massachusetts Institute of Technology-hosted Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSHub) staff earlier this year to discuss research and collaboration supporting cement-based materials and sustainability measures.

MANUFACTURERS - APRIL 2017

Roger Nielsen has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Daimler Trucks North America plus affiliated companies Freightliner Trucks, Western Star Trucks and Detroit Diesel Corp., effective this month. He succeeds Martin Daum, who has joined the Daimler AG Board of Management, responsible for Trucks and Buses.

Besser, ACPA Foundation present first Pipe Scholarship

Besser Co. awarded the inaugural, $2,500 Besser Pipe Industry Scholarship to Joe Pelica, a production team member at Michigan’s Northern Concrete Pipe and part-time Mechanical Engineering Technology student at Delta College, Bay City. Besser Vice President – Pipe & Precast Ryan Suszek announced the recipient last month during the American Concrete Pipe Association Annual Meeting in Hilton Head, S.C.
