PRODUCERS
Hanson Building Products has enlisted Ken Primavera, PE, a 17-year veteran of the water transmission industry, to lead its Hanson Pressure Pipe division as vice president of sales and engineering. He brings more than 40 years’ experience in engineering, sales, and project management, joining Hanson from Ameron International Corp., where he served most recently as Wind Towers Division president and Water Transmission Group vice president of Engineering, Marketing, and Sales. Prior to Ameron, Primavera worked in a variety of engineering and sales roles at Chicago Bridge & Iron Co.

ORGANIZATIONS
The ACI Foundation has announced Ann Daugherty as its new director, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the foundation and its programs. She will also serve as the manager of programs for the foundation’s Strategic Development Council (SDC), and as the liaison for a number of SDC Accelerated Technology Implementation teams, the Technology Management Committee and the Technology Transfer Advisory Group. Additionally, as liaison to the Concrete Research Council, she will work with the foundation and research partners to launch the all-new Concrete Research Network, an online portal that will connect researchers, funders and users of concrete research needs.

ACI Fall Convention: Innovation in Conservation

In line with its theme, “Innovation in Conservation: The Rise of Phoenix,” the American Concrete Institute Fall 2013 Convention, October 20-24 at the Hyatt Regency & Phoenix Convention Center, will feature over 50 technical sessions and numerous committee meetings giving attendees the opportunity to earn Professional Development Hours. Topics will include Emerging Technologies and What’s New in Curing Concrete; discussions on Innovation in Cooling Mass Concrete; and, an introduction of new trends in Design and Construction.

OSHA proposes fines for Hawaiian block producer

Following a spring inspection conducted under the National Emphasis Program for amputations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration Honolulu Area Office has cited building and hardscape concrete masonry producer Tileco Inc. for 22 serious violations at its Kalpolei plant.

Lafarge North America has closed on a deal with St. Louis-based Metro Materials Inc., adding two ready mixed plants and associated equipment assets in New Orleans, one of the handful of markets where it maintains integrated cement and concrete operations.
