CIM Auction reaches new watermark in final 2016 proceeds tally

The CIM National Steering Committee grossed more than $925,000 at its annual auction, held in conjunction with the World of Concrete 2016. “[It] surpassed our highest gross proceeds total ever,” affirms Auction Committee Chairman Mike Philipps (Cemex USA). “We had a record in terms of the value of donated items and attendees that helped make this year’s event a tremendous success."

ISO publishes guidance on environmental management system implementation

Feds challenge disciplinary actions tied to employees’ tardy claims of workplace injury

The Department of Labor is testing Occupational Safety and Health Act anti-discrimination provisions in a lawsuit contending U.S. Steel Corp. wrongfully suspended two Pennsylvania employees who reported treatment for symptoms of injuries perhaps occurring a few days prior while on the clock. Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel requires immediate workplace injury reporting.

Boral USA dedicates ‘Innovation Factory,’ keen on disruptive-product development

Boral USA officials cut the ribbon on a San Antonio, Texas, facility focused on material science, polymer chemistry, composite products, durability testing and process development. Dubbed the Boral Innovation Factory, it is a companion to a cementitious material- and concrete technology-centered research & development lab in Sydney, home base of parent Boral Ltd.

Cement producers maintain lead in Energy Star-certified manufacturing plants

Twenty-seven portland cement operations are among 70 manufacturing plants to achieve EPA Energy Star certification in 2015. Producers recognized for energy performance in the top 25 percent of the industry are Holcim (five plants); Buzzi Unicem, Cemex USA and Lehigh Cement (four plants); Argos USA, Essroc Cement and Titan America (two plants); plus, Ash Grove Cement, CalPortland Co., Martin Marietta Materials, Salt River Materials and Suwannee American (one plant).
