Dellinger, Oldcastle host Precast Show tours

NPCA, American Concrete Pipe Association and 2011 Precast Show contributors have mapped an agenda of training, certification, networking and related events alongside or leading up to the January 27–29 trade exhibit at the Charlotte Convention Center. Among highlights are concurrent plant tours on the morning of January 27, hosted by Dellinger Precast Inc. and Oldcastle Precast Inc., with bus service from the convention center.

Environmentalists move to nix fly ash from LEED point consideration

Environmentalists’ latest weapon to undermine the use of coal in power generation follows a curious trajectory: The U.S. Green Building Council’s public comment process for LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] rating system revisions. A group comprising federal and state environmental and law enforcement agency officials, PEER contends that construction-grade fly ash—the most widely used coal combustion residual (CCR)—should not qualify as a recycled material in the LEED rating system. It conveyed that position to the USGBC, which on January 19 will close the first of two public comment periods this year toward a new LEED version in fall 2012.

The 2,700-sq.-ft., single-level home features weatherized and insulated concrete masonry walls, plus fiber-cement siding, precast veneer stone, solar panel-bearing roof tile, and pavers from James Hardie Building Products, StoneCraft Industries, MonierLifetile and Boral Bricks.

Royal Concrete affords Metromont bigger modular precast, Florida beachhead

On the heels of a major new precast/prestressed operation in Bartow, Fla., Metromont has taken a majority interest in West Palm Beach-based Royal Concrete Concepts (RCC), a modular precast systems specialist. “The investment allows us to further diversify our business with additional building systems and grow in other market segments,” says Metromont CEO Rick Pennell, adding that one of the biggest draws to RCC is its “management team, passion, and ability to execute. This partnership will strengthen both companies. Gate Precast harmonizes eight plants’ branding

Architectural and structural precast concrete producer Gate Construction Materials Group will operate all production facilities under the name Gate Precast Co. The Gate Concrete Products Co. name has been used since 1980 for flagship and Pearland, Texas, structural precast plants.
