McGraw-Hill: Green Building Market Up 50 Percent Amid Recession

The value of green building construction during the 2008–2010 slump has grown from $42 billion to $55 billion–$71 billion; represents 25 percent of all new project activity this year; and, is on pace to reach $135 billion in 2015, according McGraw-Hill Construction's “Green Outlook 2011: Green Trends Driving Growth” report.
Green building is the bright spot in an otherwise tough economy, and in some sectors, report authors contend, growth rate has been remarkable.

LEED Certified Project Log Reaches 1 Billion Square Feet

USGBC figures the total footprint of commercial projects certified under the LEED Green Building Rating System has surpassed one billion square feet worldwide, while practitioners continue to pursue LEED certification for facilities covering six times that amount of space.

Green Concrete Council Adds Reference Guide

Detailing various concrete products’ and building methods’ specific benefits, “The Sustainable Concrete Guide – Applications” is a new companion to USGCC’s “The Sustainable Concrete Guide—Strategies and Examples” benchmark. Announced at 2010 Greenbuild, the former title offers tips and case studies on specifying concrete materials, constructing for sustainability, integrating into sustainable structures, and navigating green codes and standards.

Stephens, ISL Pen Inventure Mixer Manufacturing, Marketing Plan

Stephens and King City, Ontario-based ISL Machinery have entered an agreement whereby the former will have exclusive rights to manufacture and market the Inventure Mixer in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. “Inventure has a proven product that has been on the market for over 20 years. [Its] Reversing Drum Mixer has a reputation of consistently mixing the highest quality concrete at a very competitive cost,” said Max Stephens, president.

Appellate Court rejects NAACP, NAHB challenges to town’s pro-masonry ordinance

A U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (Houston) panel has found a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People- and National Association of Home Builders-anchored coalition lacked legal standing in its claims that revised, Kyle, Texas, zoning standards violate the Federal Fair Housing Act (FHA). In a November 11 opinion, the Appellate Court essentially affirms a March 2009 U.S. States District Court for the Western District of Texas (Austin Division) decision rejecting plaintiffs’ challenge based on their failure to present evidence the  standards discriminated against African-Americans or Hispanics.
