Court fines ex-Universal Concrete QC manager $700K for falsifying records

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia has obtained a $700,567 judgment against Andrew Nolan, a former quality control manager for Pennsylvania-based Universal Concrete Products Corp. The fine follows an August 2018 agreement in which he pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit wire fraud by falsifying air content test results on the federally funded Dulles Metrorail Project in northern Virginia.

Sika names Strittmatter to top U.S. admixture business post

A year after joining Sika Corp. as vice president of Sales – Carribean, Thomas Strittmatter has been promoted to Target Market Concrete vice president. A BASF Construction Chemicals veteran with 25-plus years in the construction industry, he will be responsible for defining and implementing the Sika U.S. admixture business strategic direction, aligning sales, marketing, research & development, operations and logistics to meet customer and shareholder expectations.

Kiewit, CH2M veteran leads Oldcastle Infrastructure Regulatory group

Oldcastle Infrastructure has designated a Regulatory Management group to support its Stormwater product line. Director of Engineering Jay Holtz, PE will transition in the same capacity to lead a team dedicated to enhancing the regulatory environment for treatment and storage solutions, and sustaining product line growth.

Road Builders project modest transportation market gains in new year

ARTBA Chief Economist Dr. Alison Premo Black projects a 4.2 percent year-over-year increase for the 2019 transportation infrastructure market, reflecting higher federal, state and local government investment across all modes. Total U.S. transportation construction and related-market activity is projected to eclipse $278 billion in 2019, up from this year’s trending tally of nearly $267 billion.

Christensen to lead BASF Admixture Systems business

Dr. Bruce Christensen, vice president, has assumed responsibility for the BASF Admixture Systems business in the U.S. and Canada, operating from the regional business unit headquarters near Cleveland and succeeding Juan Alfonso Garcia, who was named head of Construction Chemicals Latin America in October.
