New Enterprise Stone & Lime divisions Martin Limestone and New Holland Concrete have gone live with a 4,480-panel, 1.1-MW solar power system in East Earl Township, Pa.

Built on five acres in ground mount configuration, the array will power New Holland Concrete’s ready mixed and block production on an adjacent site, along with a construction materials warehouse and door-fabricating shop. Paradise Energy Solutions designed the facility, with output to power 150 homes, and commenced a four-month installation schedule in August. Sister company Sunstream Energy will own the system, lease the acreage from New Holland Concrete, and sell the producer electricity at a locked rate under a 25-year agreement.

"This project allows us to lock in reasonable long-term electric rates using a clean, renewable power source without a significant upfront investment," says Martin Limestone CEO Jeff Detwiler. “The system generates the highest amounts of power during our peak production times."

A federal grant funded a portion of the array, which likewise qualifies for favorable bonus depreciation rules.
