Amid start up of its 2 million ton/year Port-Daniel–Gascons mill in eastern Quebec, McInnis Cement has outlined an Atlantic provinces distribution plan anchored on the acquisition of two CRH Canada terminals serving New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. McInnis will honor the facilities’ order log, integrate current staff, and—under a separate agreement—begin cement deliveries to CRH Canada terminals in Long Pond, Argentia and Corner Brook, Newfoundland this fall.

Build with Strength Coalition musters Los Angeles allies

The Los Angeles Urban League has joined Asian Americans in Commercial Real Estate (AACRE), Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) plus the Southern California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce among the newest members of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association-backed Build with Strength Coalition. Comprised of fire service professionals, architects, engineers and industry experts, the group is committed to enacting sound and sustainable building standards in cities across the country.

Texas-based U.S. Concrete, Inc. has named John Kunz as senior vice president and chief financial officer. His 30-plus years across financial disciplines include experience in accounting, tax, capital markets, corporate governance compliance, public company reporting and internal controls. Kunz most recently served as vice president, corporate controller and principal accounting officer of Tenneco Inc., where he was responsible for a team that handled all corporate and business unit accounting functions—consolidations, financial planning and analysis, and Securities and Exchange Commission reporting among them.

Cummins looks to future with diesel engine footing, ‘energy-diverse’ products

Cummins Inc. executives gathered last month at the company’s technical center, near Columbus, Ind., headquarters, to spotlight a trucking industry future where diesel power will prevail for decades in certain segments, while others evolve around packages coupling internal combustion engines with mild hybrid design, and battery or fuel cells. In the core truck business, they reflected on progress their new on-highway X15 engine has exhibited through eight months of production—42,000 units shipped thus far—and strides the X12 cousin is making in field trials toward a spring 2018 debut. At 600 lbs. lighter than any other 10- to 13-liter class diesel engine for North American on/off-highway vehicles, the X12 is poised for mixer, dump and other weight-sensitive vocational trucks.
