NCMA names 2015 officers; launches online university, plant certification

Capping a 2015 convention that drew 500-plus producer and associate members to San Antonio, the National Concrete Masonry Association board elected Joseph Bowen as chairman for a one-year term, during which he envisions a strategically driven approach that engages and leverages members to push market growth in an improving economy. Bowen is executive chairman of Auburn, Wash.-based Mutual Materials. A leading source of concrete or clay unit masonry for Pacific Northwest building and hardscape markets, it runs one paver, one architectural slab, three brick and four block plants, plus a mortar and grout bagging operation, in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Joining him as 2015 NCMA officers are Chair-Elect Pat Sauter of King’s Materials, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Past-Chair Dale Puskas of Basalite Concrete Products, Dixon, Calif.

PCI calls for 2015 Design Award entries

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute is accepting entries for its 2015 Design Awards competition entries through May 18. The program recognizes design excellence, innovation, and construction quality using precast concrete. All winning projects will be showcased at the 2016 PCI Convention and National Bridge Conference at The Precast Show, March 2016 in Nashville, and featured in PCI Journal, Aspire, and Ascent magazines.

Porous Pave reaches recycling watermark

25 Porousii 150Through 2014, Porous Pave Inc. has manufactured product bearing about 6 million lb. of rubber recycled from 200,000 tires. An option for green stormwater infrastructure, Porous Pave is a highly porous, durable and flexible surfacing material consisting of recycled rubber, aggregate and a binder. Controlled shredding and processing of discarded tires produces the one-quarter-inch nominal size rubber chips incorporated into Porous Pave.

Buying mood, optimism mark The Precast Show 2015

Staged at the Orange County Convention Center last month in Orlando, The Precast Show 2015 attracted serious buyers who were looking to purchase equipment to meet growing product demand.

CDS, Solidia Technologies team on precast concrete curing chamber development

Solidia Technologies, a Piscataway, N.J., developer of proprietary cement and concrete production methods with lower carbon dioxide loads than conventional alternatives, and United Kingdom-based CDS Group, the world’s largest curing and drying specialist company, have announced a collaboration aimed at developing equipment designed to replace water with CO2 for precast concrete curing. Targeted innovations will include technological upgrades for existing curing chambers and the design and manufacture of new assemblies to accommodate Solidia’s patented CO2-curing process.
