On the heels of last year’s strategic investment in fly ash binder specialist Ceratech, Argos USA is preparing to offer carbon-neutral concrete mixes in major markets from the Carolinas to Texas. With expanded product offerings based on the ekkomaxx binder—fly ash plus a handful of proprietary liquid admixtures—Argos will reaffirm its industry leadership by offering portland cement-free mixes with two to three times the durability of regular concretes when exposed to extreme corrosive and high temperature environments, Ceratech notes.

Producer, contractor groups charter clearinghouse

In an effort to increase the awareness of certification opportunities for concrete professionals, while promoting the advantages of such programs, eight concrete associations have joined forces to form the CICC. Comprised of the American Concrete Pumping Association (ACPA), Architectural Precast Association (APA), Concrete Foundations Association (CFA), Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association (CSDA), International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA), Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) and the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA), the CICC is a non-profit clearinghouse dedicated to serving those interested in improving the quality and safety of concrete construction and renovation. As a group, the associations will concentrate on providing concrete industry professionals with certification opportunities.

Spancrete has announced the hiring of Scott Galke as the director of operations for its Valders, Wis., plant. Galke recently served as the director of operations at Metromont Precast in Greenville, S.C. Prior to his tenure at Metromont, Galke was the operations manager at Shockey Precast Company in Virginia, and also held other general manager roles.

Researcher surveys brand-driven builders

As brand loyalists, professional contractors purchase building supplies and tools based on names they know and trust, according to national research from the EMA B2B Contractor Specialty Group. Its survey of 500 general contractors and trade specialists also reveals methods of driving contractors to try new products.

Cemstone plants earn Green-Star status

Cemstone Products’ Northfield, Minn., operation has completed audits for National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Green-Star certification as well as its Childs Road batch plant facility in St. Paul, Minn. They are two of only 14 plants in Minnesota to receive such certification.
