Taylor Concrete Products, Inc., Watertown, N.Y., has been accepted in the Occupational Health and Safety Administration’s (OSHA) SHARP Program, joining an elite group of only 75 New York state businesses to hold the honor and only one of two companies from Jefferson County to do so.
One of the best-known management consultants and financial advisors to concrete, aggregate and cement producers, William B. Allen, died late last month in Memphis after a prolonged illness. Just past the midpoint of his nearly six decades in construction materials, he transitioned from independent business owner in a market destined for consolidation, to a valuation expert involved in transactions shaping current ready mixed, precast concrete and aggregate production leaders.
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association honored producer and associate members during its 2012 convention last month in Savannah, Ga. Awards were presented to individuals or companies as determined by various NRMCA committees, along with 2011–12 Chairman Karl Watson, Jr.
Crediting cautious construction market optimism among producers and their suppliers, National Precast Concrete Association reports a significant spike in floor traffic over prior year figures for the Precast Show, co-located with the 2012 Icon Expo in Orlando. The March 1–3 event marked official attendance of 3,692 and 1,000-plus units of training delivered—the highest for the show’s education component since 2008.
