Ace brewer paves Piedmont path

FF-ICP1-150A nearly 150,000-sq.-ft. permeable paver installation at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. satellite operation in Mills River, N.C., took Concrete Paver–Permeable–Commercial honors in the 2014 Hardscape North America Project Awards, sponsored by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute, National Concrete Masonry Association and Brick Industry Association.

Energy research laboratory breaks ground at Hampden-Sydney College

EnergyLabI-150Once completed in December, a 26- x 45-ft. freestanding research facility will provide students and faculty at Hampden-Sydney College’s departments of Physics & Astronomy and Mathematics & Computer Science a unique opportunity to research energy monitoring, energy conservation, and sustainable buildings in a grant-based project on its Virginia campus.

ACI marks a century of architectural concrete pioneer Earley’s work

Earley, who was the Institute’s first contractor president and served on the Architectural Concrete of the Exposed Aggregate Type Committee during his 28 years of membership.

Soft aggregate, sound solution

FF-HwySnd1-150This summer a four-mile stretch of the Dulles Connector Road became the first phase of a larger project in northern Virginia to include ground-mounted sound walls containing SoftSound, a sound absorptive technology. Approximately 277,000 square feet of precast concrete sound wall will be placed on the west side of the roadway between Chain Bridge Road/Route 123 and Interstate 66. The sound walls will mitigate noise from Dulles Connector Road traffic and the new Dulles Metrorail Silver Line extension, which has been constructed at-grade in the median and on elevated rail flyovers along the roadway.

49ers score big with low-carbon footprint facility

The San Francisco 49ers are kicking off the 2014-15 NFL season at a new sustainable stadium thanks in part to West Sacramento-based Clark Pacific as well as Central Concrete Supply Co., a subsidiary of U.S. Concrete.
