A city hall design no one will fight

Bethlehem, Pa.-based Spillman Farmer Architects (SFA) and the City of Easton broke ground for the new three-story, 138,800-sq.-ft. Transportation Center Garage. Mindful of the Lehigh Valley’s deep roots in portland cement milling, project principals did not need to labor over the material of choice to support and clad the new Easton City Hall and Transportation Center, rising in the fittingly named eastern Pennsylvania town of 27,000.

FIBER CEMENT PANELS PROVE FLEXIBILITY IN RETROFIT PROJECT

Located in Uvalde, Texas, the Willie De Leon Civic CenterLocated in Uvalde, Texas, the Willie De Leon Civic Center recently experienced a major renovation, whose final result is a strong statement for fiber cement panels beyond the residential siding market. The civic center was originally built in 1968, as a tribute to the area’s most decorated soldier, who earned a Purple Heart during World War II.

Embracing Excellence

Judges in the Tilt-Up Concrete Association’s 23rd Annual Tilt-Up Achievement Awards recognized a total of 31 award recipients, and selected 11 overall Excellence in Achievement winners—including the four projects noted here. TCA established the Achievement Awards to honor projects that represent an increasing diversity of building types constructed with site-cast tilt-up concrete as well as those that advance industry technology, apply innovative form and provide unique solutions to building programs.
