Global group to certify Responsible Concrete Sourcing

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Geneva-based Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), along with partners from the Americas, Europe and Asia, has launched a responsibility sourcing certification system for concrete. The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC), a CSI counterpart chartered in November 2016, is crafting the system to concrete, cement and aggregate companies obtain insight in the level to which a company operates in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible way. CSC certification covers raw material sourcing or provenance, production plus a range of economic, social and environmental impacts.

LafargeHolcim joins initiative targeting barriers to energy-efficient buildings

Under the umbrella of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, LafargeHolcim Ltd. and its global counterpart in steel, ArcelorMittal, are aligning with other key construction players to advance Energy Efficiency in Buildings (EEB). The initiative addresses a major opportunity for reducing fuel consumption and attendant greenhouse gas emissions, and will bring together public and private sector leaders in local markets to understand barriers to energy-efficient buildings and drive investments improving the built environment.

Carbon black pigments propel surfaces, slabs toward ‘jetness’

Granulated and liquid pigments debuting at World of Concrete 2017 enable producers and contractors to approach jet black in masonry units and cast-in-place or precast concrete surfaces or structures. Orion Engineered Carbons’ Corasol and Derussol agents are based on carbon black, the smudgy film burning candles deposit on container or enclosure walls.

Software upgrade doubles robot’s brick-laying output

The Semi-Automated Mason (SAM) robotics system continues to enhance productivity and enable faster, higher-quality brick masonry work on the jobsite, product engineers contend—especially on the strength of a OS 2.0 software package demonstrated last month at World of Concrete 2017.

Sakrete shelves old packaging

World of Concrete 2017 attendees were among the first to see a new Sakrete packaging scheme rolling into dealer and home improvement retail channels throughout the first quarter. New graphics for paper and other packages extend a logo unveiled in 2016 for the brand’s 80th anniversary. Sakrete showed early products bearing the scheme as part of its World of Concrete exhibit at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Along with new packaging, the producer unveiled a concrete mix specially formulated for countertops.
