World of Concrete marks milestone in 2014

World of Concrete debuted February 1975 with sponsors American Society for Concrete Contractors, American Concrete Pumping Association and Concrete Construction Publications, plus participating organizations, American Concrete Institute and Portland Cement Association. From that modest start would emerge the largest, annual international trade geared to commercial concrete construction.

Titan America parlays permeable articulating concrete block pavement

Titan America LLC introduced the proprietary PaveDrain system to the South Florida market this fall through a 650-sq.-ft. demonstration at Ft. Lauderdale City Hall. A Permeable Articulating Concrete Block Pavement System (P-ACB), PaveDrain is placed either in mat sections, typically 8-feet wide and up to 40-feet long, or as individual units much like conventional paving stones.

Europeans envision 80 percent cut in industry’s carbon load by mid-century

A five-route roadmap details how European Cement Association members and customers can reduce their industry’s carbon dioxide emissions from a 1990 level of 170 million metric tons to 34 million metric tons by 2050. Routes under cement sector control are Resource Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, plus Carbon Sequestration and Reuse; two others, Product Efficiency and Downstream, target low-carbon concretes, smart buildings and infrastructure, concrete recycling and sustainable construction.
