ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020 organizers focus like a laser on technology

A 10- x 22-ft. smart city replica took center stage at a recent Chicago gathering hosted by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020 planning team. It demonstrates how a smart city, through sensors and analytics, will be able to transform information into digestible data, providing knowledge for service departments and infrastructure to work smarter. The smart city model will be on display March 10-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and showcase such ConExpo-Con/Agg Tech Center scenarios as:

The smart city replica will anchor the ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020 Tech Experience. AEM views the exhibit as a means to educating industry attendees and build show participation from public and private stakeholders downstream of quarries, concrete plants and construction sites.
  • Different city grids and how a city responds to heat, wind and storms;
  • Connectivity such as 5G service, sensors, telematics and Internet of Things devices; and,
  • Impacts of construction: the jobsite of the future within the city and how equipment will communicate.

“Our goal for the Tech Experience in 2020 is to show how all of these exciting new technologies will impact current work, how the expectations and demands of customers will change and how the current state of infrastructure may change,” says AEM Senior Vice President, Construction, Mining & Utility Al Cervero.

The show is expanding the 2020 footprint from the 2017 staging to include the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, located on the Las Vegas Strip adjacent to the Circus Circus Hotel. Festival Grounds will include aerial and crane, earth moving, hauling and underground construction exhibits. A connected campus will see new and expanded transportation, attendee experiences and registration locations. Features will include multi-site drop off locations for shuttles, complimentary Las Vegas Monorail passes, golf cart transfers, and various experiential transportation options throughout the week.

“AEM is committed to bringing people together at ConExpo-Con/Agg, as the show serves as a catalyst for industry growth and development,” noted Show Director and Vice President of Exhibitions and Event Services Dana Wuesthoff. “We want to make sure everyone can explore the entire show and have the best possible experience.”

In addition to the record-setting 2,800 exhibitors and the 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space, ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020 will offer 150 education sessions featuring the latest industry topics grouped into Concrete, Aggregates and three other tracks.
